Choosing Your Ideal Client.August 26 / JN Design Studio
One of the toughest parts of beginning your marketing quest is determining your ideal client. Something I struggled with continuously. Can you picture them? Have you even done the necessary steps to identify them?
Without knowing your ideal client, you could be going down a work life of hell. Consistently pitching and spending mountains of cash to keep coming up short. Or obtaining clients that fall short of who you really want to work with.
In picking your ideal client you should begin with asking yourself these questions: What type of work do I want to do? Do personalities matter? Am I ok with doing on-off projects or do I need something more consistent? Do I want to do any project available or complete branding systems and strategies? Do I want to work with someone who is flexible on ideas? Do I need limitations to work better?
Write down your answers and create a list of current clients vs your ideal clients and see how you match up. If you match up pretty good then you are in good shape. If not, now you have a better sense of what to change.
Create an attributes list and keep it handy at all times. This way you can double check your list to ensure your potentials are following your “Golden Rules”. Since nothing in life is perfect and I seriously doubt you ever find that perfect client, rate these new found attributes in order of importance. See what you are willing to deal with and how you will compromise.
Remember, this list will change as you grow and don’t be afraid to say NO! Everyone is not for everybody.
